Bubbles
DrewH on May 28th 2009
Sarah did get a little bored with the waiting part of fishing. She took out her bubbles and I saw a pretty cool picture opportunity. I was using a pretty limited depth of field. I was trying to keep the background out of focus as well as her head. I probably could have opened it up a bit more in order to get more of the bubbles in focus. The images below were at F1.8 and 1/1000 shutter speed.

The fish were really biting
DrewH on May 28th 2009
I think I promised more fishing pictures from this past Sunday. A storm rolled through the area and it really got the fish biting. We were also fishing with worms this time around and I think the fish liked them more than the minnows.
And yes, that is a Disney Princess rod she is using.

Texas Thistle
DrewH on May 28th 2009
We were out at Liz’s Mom’s place (let’s just call that Tabor from now on) doing some fishing and I took a couple pictures of some of the wild flowers that were still in bloom. I particularly liked how this image came out. It’s a crop from the full size image. Click on the image to get the full size.
I also took some pictures of a prickly pear cactus blossom. I really like the color on the blossom and cactus. The green on the bottom of the petals and the red found on the cactus pad. This flower will eventually turn into a fruit.

What’s it feel like to be 33?
DrewH on May 27th 2009
Honestly, a lot like 32. My birthday was on Sunday, I have officially gotten older. Liz and I invited out a few friends to go see Hayes Carll perform at the Lakeside Icehouse at Lake Bryan on Saturday. We arrived around 7 PM in order to get some food and find a table. Little did we know, we sat ourselves right next to the band. Liz politely complimented Hayes on his music and lyrical ability and asked if we could get a photo together before the show. He agreed.

A couple of portraits and a sampler…
DrewH on May 19th 2009
A couple weekends ago, Liz and I met up with some friends at the Lakeside Icehouse at Lake Bryan. I took my camera along and snapped a few pictures. I like the way the these three turned out. Left-click the images to go to a full-size version (may take a while to load).
This first image is a picture of the Sampler Platter appetizer. It had fried dill pickle slices, quesadillas, jalapeno poppers (fried, of course), and a couple other things I can’t recall. It was quite tasty and went well with a beer or two… or three.
Next up is an pretty darn good natural portrait of Celeste. She was leaning up against the rail, people watching and she turned around and had just about the perfect pose.
This third image is a shot of Sarah Lynn with Eric Finley. Eric just about as much a ham for the camera as Sarah Lynn can be. Anyway, they posed this one on their own and I just happened to be point the camera in the right direction. Although it looks like it might be daylight, it was actually after 8 PM. I used fill flash but I had it set to second curtain sync. You can see a little bit of movement blur on Eric.
