Enchanted, the B-sides
DrewH on Jul 30th 2008
The girls and I had an evening to ourselves last Saturday. We were watching a marathon of iCarly on Nickelodeon and then switched over to Disney Channel and caught part of the Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds Concert. The 3-D effect really wasn’t happening all that much. I don’t know if it was our television or just the combination of all the stage lights and jumbo tron backdrops. When the Jonas Brothers came on, the girls pulled out their own collection of musical instruments to jam. I shot this video of the two of them actually playing together. Sarah is on the keyboard and backup vocals while Celeste has lead.

Surgery!
DrewH on Jul 28th 2008
It’s 5 o’clock and I can’t really feel my bottom lip yet. Surgery was around 8:30 or so this morning. Liz says we finished up around 10 or 10:30. My recollection of the event was showing up, writing a huge check (still appreciate having insurance though) and then walking into the surgery room. I sat down, got nice and comfy and then the nurse/assistant began to hook me to everything. Blood pressure cuff, pulse monitor thing on my finger, two electrodes that went around my wrists/lower arms and looked like there were going to jump start me. Doctor came in and adjusted the chair and began to anesthetic. Right about then, when I am pretty much tied to everything, my nose started to itch. Go figure. Nurse put me on some oxygen and about then, my arms started to feel heavy. Doc asked if I was feeling the effect of the medicine. I replied, “yes, I can feel it in my arms.” After that, all I remember is waking up, getting helped into a wheel chair and out the door. Liz brought me home, changed out my gauze (which was amazingly bloody) and I promptly fell asleep on the couch. I think I woke up around 1. Liz had gone and rented the movie Jumper. Not a bad movie, just lots of plot holes. Changed out my gauze again. Still bloody. Still on pain medication as well. Probably why I feel good. My jaw is beginning to hurt more as my lip begins to feel like a part of my body though. Anyway, we’ll see how I do and if I can get back to work before the end of the week or not.

Life update
DrewH on Jul 25th 2008
I’ve decided to make it a point to post at least once a week. Doesn’t matter what I post, just that I make a post once a week. So, the easiest thing would be to talk about the week.
Celeste will be coming back from New Mexico tomorrow. She will be flying into Austin from Albuquerque in the afternoon. Liz will be driving over to pick her up. She’s been in New Mexico visiting her grandparents since July 5th. Can’t wait to get her home. She’s been having a lot of fun though. She has been horse riding almost every day it seems and helping her grandma take care of goats, chickens, and some dogs. I sent her up with her camera and I hope she has taken plenty of pictures.
I will be having my wisdom teeth removed early Monday morning. I’ve taken then entire week off of work just in case. I will have all four of my wisdom teeth removed. The bottom teeth are fully impacted. I love looking at the x-ray, the two teeth are at a 90° angle to the rest of my teeth. My top two wisdom teeth are fully erupted. I’ve been trying to get these teeth removed for the past five years or so. The first time we just didn’t have the money. The second time, we had changed insurance carriers and it was just a mess trying to get all four approved. This time it’s worked out better, more by the grace of the oral surgeon, though.
Liz has been taking some math classes this summer. It will be nice that she can finally get all her math squared away. This fall she will be able to start focusing on her major courses. If all the class shedules work out, she may be able to finish up her degree in the next two years.
I will be changing jobs at work. I am moving from construction inspection to District Design next month. The Bryan District has a large backlog of work just waiting to be put on paper… well, it’s also waiting for funding but that’s another story. I’ll have a more consistent work schedule but I will be working in a cubicle. Of course, I’ll have a place for all my engineering books again. I am also working on closing out the FM 2154 rehab project I started in January. The project is finishing ahead of schedule and the road looks pretty darn good. Rides really nice.

Hello world!
DrewH on Jul 6th 2008
Well, somehow I did it again. I managed to delete the database and the backup was too far out of date to worry about. Since I am starting over, I am working on a new site design. For those that do check here, have patience.
